Cromarty Firth. 22/07/99; Scotland; 3,747 ha; 57°41'N 004°12'W. Special Protection Area EC Directive, SSSI. The site supports the full range of estuarine habitats. Of particular importance are the extensive intertidal mudflats, which support sizeable beds of Zostera spp. The tidal flats are bordered locally by saltmarsh which grades into alluvial woodland at the mouth of the river Conon. It provides habitat for internationally important populations of Limosa lapponica and Anser anser. The site is used for nature conservation, tourism, and grazing. Ramsar site no. 1001.
